About the project

who? what? where? why?

Big boys don't send postcards is a collaborative film and mixed media project by social issue based film maker Mark Ashmore, and is being produced by futureartists.co.uk.

Over the past two years Mark has worked hard to make sure British service men and women returning from the frontline are given the respect they deserve, he first made a short film called 'Broken Britain'. The film was about situations that have happened up and down the country where returning soldiers from the Afghanistan conflict have been refused entry to pubs, trains and hotels because of the job they do, the film was based on the following articles:

'Big Boys Don't Send Postcard' is being written by returning front line troops and will outline the experiences of fighting a war that Britain seems to have forgot under the spell of talent shows, and by those left behind, the wives, girlfriends and families are also writing up their account of what it is like to have a loved one fighting on Britain’s frontline. Mark is billing the film as a generation about to have their say on the realties of 21st century warfare, the tale of two cities Salford, Lancaster and Sangin, Helmond.

The film is being funded by Donations, DVD sales of the short film, and Sponsorship, so please get involved e-mail: Mark.ashmore@futureartists.co.uk

Big Boys don't send postcards is going to be a full length feature film, produced by Mark Ashmore and Jenny Inchbald from future artists.

We are also campaigning for every frontline service man and woman to be given a FREE pint on their return home, the least we can do.

The Film is being created online through www.media-city.tv a virtual office, so people with a shared passion, the skills to make this happen and a community to support the artists can work together to make this project happen.

The film also has support from the community on Arrse.co.uk the biggest soldiers forum on the web
http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=98237.html

Why? It seems that we need to open up and have a conversation about why the soldiers are out in Afghanistan. It seems that the British public have hidden the truth from themselves or maybe the media has, or maybe the Government has, that we are at War, and that means as a country we either support the Armed forces and give them all the equipment they need and look after them when they are injured or we bring them home.

The Army is sent in to Win.

So please, if you believe that cinema, like i do has the power to effect change, then please buy a DVD for £5 from the website, or make a donation to the cause, by doing so, you'll help give a young generation who have been fighting a war for many years a voice to tell their story, our story, history.
